Storytelling Program for Early Childhood Education: Preschool, Co-op, Parent Groups

What will you find in this program plan?

In this plan, you will be able to find information about the “Design Challenge” proposed by the Children’s Creativity Museum (CCM) and some elements that I consider while managing an art program. I designed the mock programs based on the museum’s mission and vision.

In the Introduction, I developed a rationale for the proposal, some long-range goals and challenges. Continue reading

The subversive nature of the entertainment market and pirate media distribution in Brasil.

I would like to talk about the subversive nature of the entertainment market and pirate media distribution in Brasil. Through navigating Jenkings Convergence culture blog I was thrilled by the fact that he presented an opening talk on transmedia in Rio, in 2010. In his blog he recognizes the singularities of the Brazilian market toward the mass media decentralized culture, analyzing the pirate sector of movies, and the income generated to informal and formal distributors, according to statistic data, the pirate distribution of Brazilian movies generates a fortune on sold copies, but in the contrary of what others might think; instead of this fact being negative it creates the opposite effect.  The thousands of DVD copies sold even before the movie is launched in the theaters, generates a thrilling movement to consume the product.  Continue reading

Story Project

Status

This is an Amazing project developed at the Children’s Creativity Museum: “Creativity Stories

A documentation of children’s creations through visual story-telling.

How many stories I have heard through these years working with children that I had to keep on my mind or enjoy just at the moment that they flourished.

I really wish I could have recorded them in such a way. But time limitations and sometimes resources never allowed me to do so.

But here is the idea, recorded for other people to see and for myself to remember.

I hope you enjoy this project as I did.

Below is the video of “Palavra Cantada” group. This is the original version of the song “What is in the baby’s soup?”. The English version that is a great success in my class!

Create-a-thon!

Start the new year with an imagination celebration! “Artisteacher” Kelly Tavares leads a jump-in, hands-on art party for the whole family, with stories, songs, collage, sculpture, and more.

“When I heard you were doing another program here I signed up to host it immediately.  Everyone loved the first programs you did and I was sorry to have missed them. According to Ben you were a great presenter – bright and lively, he said.” Jay S., Library Educator

“Thank you so much for a wonderful time yesterday. The creative juices were flowing!” Anne Miller, Youth Services Librarian

Once upon a time when art classes were a “cookie-cutter” path to follow through. Now it is time to learn with the children and to observe their creative development. To listen and understand, and finally provide support.

It is a time to inspire and let it be; To surprise yourself as a parent and educator and trust in their capacity to innovate.

“Artisteacher” Kelly Tavares engaged young minds and fingers with a set of terrific programs at the Downtown Library today. Her Create-a-Thon featured a soup-making activity in which all manner of unlikely items were thrown into a big pot to make a soup for baby – Bugs? Snakes? Alligators? I guess baby’s not a picky eater! Then we moved to the tables for craft activities. Kids (and parents) made paintings with clay, lovely and bizarre photo montages, and wacky Styrofoam, fuzzy wire, and google-eye creations. What a lot of fun we had!”                                                             Jay, Library Educator
